Nibblefest Art Contest

The Nibblefest Art Contest is a contest organized by a group of artists on eBay.com.  Each month a new theme is selected and on the 20th of each month, the artists all put up paintings.  The winner of the contest is the person with the highest number of unique bidders.  The most exciting part for art collectors is that the bidding starts at only $0.99!  To look for entries in this contest, just search for NFAC from the 20th to the 27th of each month.

"I joined this group of artists so that I would be forced to do paintings which I normally wouldn't do.  Like many of my fellow artists, I tend to do the same type of painting over and over again.  And I tend to return to the same subjects.  But with this contest, I have to get out of my comfort zone and deal with subjects that I wouldn't choose on my own.  This is a great way to help me grow as an artist.

"Although this is a contest and I would like to win it sometime, I'm just having fun doing different work and watching the bidding frenzy.  It's quite fun to see a painting go from $0.99 to $30+ in a few hours! "

Dec 2006:  Dreams

linocut print of a goddess and her symbols

"The theme for December is Dreams.  This linocut print is titled Goddess Dreams and was a logical fit for the the theme.  It was inspired by a statement in a book which said that the goddess-centered cultures of prehistoric Europe is still accessible to us thru our dreams.

"This print was part of an international print exchange and exhibit.  It is now in private and public collections from the US to South Africa and Australia. The edition was only 24 with 22 being involved in the exchange."

Oct 2006:  Gnarled Trees

a watercolor of a gnarled tree
Natural Bonsai

"The theme for October is gnarled trees.  As I recently had to take my cat up to Big Bear (to the vet), I saw quite a number of gnarled trees hanging on the side of canyon walls.  This was the inspiration for this piece.

"This painting was done in watercolor over rice paper collage.  This technique creates wonderful rocks and foliage.  The painting is 10x14 on 100% rag printmaking paper."
