Portraits in Pencil
Using only a simple to graphite pencil to create a stunning
portrait is not an easy task. Without changes in color,
shapes must be conveyed only by shadows. While corrections
can be made, the pencil does challenge an artist's drawing
ability.
The pencil portraits in this section are older drawings,
including a few which others have requested. Click on the
title of each drawing for a larger picture. Those pieces with
a red star after their title ("*")
are available for purchase. (Please visit the individual
page for purchase information.)

A custom portrait of a loved one makes a fabulous
present at anytime of the year, but since these drawings do take
time to create, it is advisable to order at least one month ahead
time.
Three standard sizes are available:
An 8"x10" custom pencil portrait on 11"x14"
paper to allow for proper framing. This is suggested
for one main subject, a main subject and perhaps a small pet, or
for a group of up to 3 individuals where facial details are not
extremely important.
An 11"x14" custom pencil portrait on
14"x17" paper to allow for proper framing. This is
suggested for close-ups of adults (or older children), a main
subject and a larger pet (such as a horse), a married couple, or a
group of over 3 individuals.
A 16"x20" custom pencil portrait on 20"x24"
paper to allow for proper framing. This is suggested for
close-ups of 2 or more individuals, a person with several large
pets, or a larger portrait of a group of people. If the
portrait is to be of one person, then clear and large photos are
extremely important.
If you wish to commission a portrait but you have some
questions, please visit the commission
information page or contact the artist.
