pencil portrait of a young man

Brad

This portrait of a young man was done as a memorial to his short life.  Like far too many people, Brad was killed by a drunk driver.  Unfortunately, due to a technicality, the driver was not convicted even of DUI in Brad's death.  His mother has created a wonderful website in his memory, which details Brad's life and the tragedy of his death.  Please visit www.bradleycordial.homestead.com.

While this portrait was difficult for Ms. Hornberger to do (as she has had a family member also killed by a drunk driver), it points out the advantages of a portrait over a photo.  Brad's mother only had a large photo of him not smiling, but she wanted to remember him smiling.  So, working from several small photos and after several attempts, the final portrait was created.  In the words of the artist, "It wasn't easy to do, but I would gladly do it again."
