The Old Mare
This pencil portrait is of the mare Veida, whose
portrait was also done in oil pastels. (See Veida.)
Pencil seemed to be the ideal medium to capture the details of
her wrinkled skin while also showing the softer details on her
muzzle. She is, not only a dignified older mare, but a
wonderful artist's subject.
