Cottonwood Leaves

Cottonwood Leaves

This detailed study is of a handful of cottonwood leaves and a few twigs.  It was done in pencil and is highly detailed, which the scan doesn't adequately capture.

From the artist:

"I have this fascination with dried leaves.  I'm not sure why.  I suppose it has to do with the subtle textures and the ragged holes.  This makes for a drawing that is not only a challenge to draw accurately, but is also stunning piece when finished.  And yes, it's nice to work on a botanical subject that doesn't wilt or grow a new leaf before I'm done!"
