About the Artist

Personal Philosophy

"My personal philosophy is that variety in life is essential to living a full life.  I will stop learning new things when I die -- until then, I never want to stop growing both as a person and as an artist."

As an artist, L.M. Hornberger has followed her own philosophy.  She has created and sold botanical watercolors, original prints, portraits, wood and stone sculptures, oil still lifes,  etc...  She is gifted with the ability to use whatever medium needed to create the piece of art she envisions.  Even now while focusing on portraits, she still works on a few sculptures in addition to still lifes or wildlife paintings.  "Having this variety gives me a break and allows me to return to a portrait refreshed."

Art Career

Ms. Hornberger has been selling art for over 2 decades.  She has participated in museum shows, solo gallery shows, and premier art festivals.  Her award-winning work is represented in numerous private, public, and corporate collections in the US, Canada, and Europe, as well as private collections in Australia, Japan, and South Africa.

Education

Ms. Hornberger has a BA in history from Iowa State University and worked on a MLitt at Oxford University.  She also has a BS in statistics/math and did graduate work in botany, all at ISU.  While entirely self-taught when it comes to art, her talents have been recognized by collectors and shows alike.

Personal Information

When not doing art, she spends her time with such hobbies as gardening, model ship building, and knitting. She shares her home and land with her husband, 5 cats, 6 rescued parrots, and a wide assortment of wildlife.  "One of the wonders of this place is the incredible wildlife we have.  I've seen a wide variety of migrating birds, snakes, lizards, and even a bobcat or two!"
